Tracks your pack

The Aavia smart birth control case makes tracking your hormonal cycle as easy as taking your pill. The case senses when you slide your blister pack out, and connects to your phone for automatic updates and reminders. The result? Aavia members are 2X more consistent with taking their pill.

Simple and Slim

A multitude of design concepts were tested with Aavia’s existing beta users, and an uncomplicated design was chosen to be most appropriate. A daily interaction with the case takes mere seconds, as we’ve eliminated extraneous hinges or covers. The case accommodates 99% of contraceptive pill packs, and houses a 3-month rechargeable battery, sensors and custom PCB in a pocketable form factor.

Hot swap

The outer shell slides on and off to personalize your Aavia smart case. At launch there’s two options, a subtle translucent white pearl and an eye-catching option with a painted rainbow and iridescent vacuum-metallized coating.

Prototyping and development

The case design posed some interesting engineering challenges - it has a finished interior envelope, as well as exterior, with an additional removable cosmetic shell. Working in concert with the Aavia’s Electrical Engineer, Impel’s Mechanical Engineers detailed the inner features necessary for manufacturing and assembly. The robust inner case is one-way snapped and glued in assembly, whereas the outer shell is made from two ultrasonically-welded injection molded components.
